Environment and Conservation

Every story on Tennessee’s Wild Side promotes the proper enjoyment of outdoor life in Tennessee. But the stories highlighted on this page are even more tightly woven into the theme of conserving our environment. These are the stories about endangered species, land management, and people who go out of their way to be good stewards of our habitat.

Catoosa Wildlife Management Area is rich in history, with lush, open fields and heavy woods, a landscape criss-crossed with streams and rivers. Catoosa was once a bountiful hunting ground for Native Americans and for the long hunters of Daniel Boone’s time. Today we’re hunting for animals, but to study, not take home. We’re going on a bio-blitz, designed to gather information for the State Wildlife Action Plan. Wild Side Guide Janet Ivey shows us how the TWRA is working to ensure a secure future for our natural world.
