The Endangered Barrens Topminnow
Sometimes the smallest of matters create the biggest challenges. That’s the case with one tiny fish. This is the story of potential conflict between farmers struggling to make a living and a fish that’s on the brink of extinction. Their battleground is a natural stream used as drinking water for cattle. It’s also believed to be the only place on earth where a fish called the Barrens Topminnow lives and breeds. Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs shows us how farmers and the government are working together to preserve a farming tradition and save an endangered species.

Since the initial stocking of 63 fish, over three thousand Barrens Topminnows have been released at eight sites in Warren, Grundy, and Coffee Counties in Tennessee.
