Land Between the Lakes Elk to Tennessee

From Episode 512

Braving wind, sleet, rain, and mud, hundreds of people turned out to see the latest release of elk into the mountains of east Tennessee. Elk disappeared from our state more than a century ago. But the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency continues its efforts to build an elk population, beginning in the mountains of Scott county. The first elk were brought from Canada. The latest were obtained from Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky. Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs takes us to a coming home party for the elk, where the local community welcomed their new residents with a combination of awe and respect.
