Clinch River Mining
Flowing out of southwest Virginia into Tennessee, the Clinch River is a wide waterway of scenic beauty and amazing aquatic diversity. The Clinch is the only free-flowing headwaters of the Tennessee River system, and over the years has been a favorite of trout anglers and water lovers alike. Today, though, the Clinch is battling to survive. At stake is not only its future, but the wildlife that inhabit its waters. Because it is not dammed for many miles, the Clinch is home to a wide variety of aquatic species from mussels to fish, making it one of the world’s most unique habitats. Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs takes us to northeast Tennessee, where the Clinch is facing its most formidable and powerful enemy... man.
