Hardin County Crayfish
The cotton fields of west Tennessee wouldn’t be your first pick for this little guy. In fact, the Hardin County crayfish would likely go unnoticed by most of us if not for the interest of the TWRA and others. Researchers are doing their best to protect the crayfish. That’s because, like better-known and bigger animals, the Hardin County crayfish plays an important role in our natural world. Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs takes us to a small stream full of life - past and present.
The TWRA does an excellent job of conserving and protecting wildlife and their habitat, especially those animals deemed in danger of disappearing. For more, visit www.tnwildlife.org, home of the TWRA.
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation often teams with the TWRA to work with such animals. Visit TDEC’s web home at www.state.tn.us/environment. Learn more about crayfish at www.crayfish.byu.edu. And find out about Hardin County, Tennessee, by visiting www.tourhardincounty.org.
